A remote specialist for Canadian websites, stores and ads

I work with Canadian businesses from Finland with clear time-zone overlap. English-language sites and stores, SEO and ads for Canadian searchers, with email consent rules (CASL) and accessibility expectations in mind. French content is not offered.

What is different for Canadian work

Four things I plan differently for a Canadian site or store. Rules vary by province, so where law is involved, check your own obligations and confirm tax treatment with your accountant.

CAD

Canadian dollar pricing and sales tax

Prices in CAD, with GST, HST or provincial sales tax applied by the store platform according to the shopper's province. Which taxes you must register for and collect is a question for your accountant; I configure the store to match their answer and test it with real addresses.

@

CASL email consent

Canada's anti-spam law expects consent before commercial email. Sign-up forms use an unticked box with clear wording, consent is recorded with date and source, and every email carries sender details and a working unsubscribe link. Check your own obligations for existing lists.

A

Provincial accessibility rules

Some provinces set their own accessibility rules, such as Ontario's AODA, with requirements that depend on organisation size and type. I build to WCAG 2.2 AA and give you a written test record; check your own obligations. Accessibility audits.

US

Cross-border shipping

Many Canadian stores also sell south of the border. Separate CAD and USD price lists, carrier rates for Canada Post or couriers, and clear duties wording at checkout so US customers are not surprised on delivery. Ecommerce services covers the store side.

When I would not be the right choice

Read this first if you sell in Quebec.

  • 01You need French-language or bilingual content. I do not write, translate or review French, so a French-language partner would have to own that part entirely.
  • 02You are on the Pacific coast and need live calls most afternoons. There is no office-hours overlap with British Columbia.
  • 03You need a legal opinion on CASL, AODA or tax. I build to the rules as written; interpreting them for your business is your adviser's job.

Starting points and prices

Fixed prices in euros, excluding VAT. For most Canadian businesses I would start with a website done properly, then add the store or ads once the basics convert.

Questions from Canadian businesses

Do you build French-language sites?

No. I build and write English-language sites and stores only, and I do not offer French content, translation or review. If you sell in Quebec or need bilingual pages, bring in a French-language partner from the start; I can leave room for a second language in the site structure, but the French itself would be entirely their work.

Can I pay in Canadian dollars?

Prices are set in euros, and invoicing in Canadian dollars is still being confirmed. If it is offered, the written quote states the CAD amount and the exchange rate used that day, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay. Ad spend is billed by Google, Microsoft or Meta straight to your card.

Do you know CASL and accessibility rules?

I build with both in mind: sign-up forms record express consent, every email carries sender details and an unsubscribe link, and pages are built and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA. Provincial rules such as Ontario's AODA set their own requirements, so check your own obligations; I supply the technical record you need.

How we work across the Atlantic

East-coast clients get a short live overlap every working day. Further west, the late window and written updates carry the project.

  1. 1

    Scope in writing

Your enquiry, my questions, then a fixed price within one working day.

  2. 2

    Kick-off in the overlap

One call in your morning, timed from the band above for your province.

  3. 3

    Daily written updates

A staging link and a few lines each working day, waiting when you start.

  4. 4

    Launch and hand-over

Launch at the start of your day. Accounts, code and logins stay in your name.

Tell me your province, what you sell and whether you also sell to the US. You get a written fixed price within one working day.

If it does not work out: the price is agreed in writing up front, there is no lock-in, and every account and file is yours from day one, so you can stop at any milestone and keep what has been delivered.
