Is it up?

An outside monitor loads your home page and one key page, checks the status code and looks for a word that must be in the HTML, so a blank white page counts as down.

SSL certificate and domain expiry are watched too, with a warning 30 days ahead.

every night

A backup that lives somewhere else

Files and database are copied off the server, encrypted, and kept for 30 days. A backup on the same server dies with the server.

Once a month the latest backup is restored onto staging, because a backup you have never restored is only a hope.

every week

Updates, staging first

Core, plugins and theme are updated on a staging copy. Key pages are compared before and after, and only then does the update go live.

If a changelog mentions a breaking change, the update waits and the reason goes into the report.

every week

Security and health

A malware scan, a file integrity check against the official checksums, a look at admin users, failed logins and the PHP error log.

On Store care, a test order goes through checkout with the payment provider's test mode.

day 30

One page, plain language

What was updated, what was found, how the site performed and what I suggest next month. No jargon, no 40-page export.

The sample below fills in as the month runs.

What I do when something breaks

The same four steps every time. Pick what went wrong to see how each step plays out.

  1. 1

    Alert

Within 5 minutes, 1 on Store care

The monitor gets an error or a blank page twice in a row and alerts me by push and email.

  2. 2

    Check

    Within 1 working hour

I check whether it is the site, the server, DNS or the host, and send you one short message with what I found.

  3. 3

    Fix

    Usually the same day

Restart, roll back the last change or restore last night's backup. If the host is down, I open the ticket and chase it.

  4. 4

    Note

    Same day

A log entry: cause, fix, minutes down and what stops it happening again. It goes into the monthly report.

Ask about care plans

Starting a care plan

The first month includes a baseline, so the report has something honest to compare against.

  1. 1

    Access

An admin login and hosting access for me, created by you, removable by you at any time.

  2. 2

    Baseline

A full backup, a staging copy, the plugin list, current speed and a first security scan.

  3. 3

    First round

Overdue updates tested on staging, monitors switched on, anything risky flagged before it is touched.

  4. 4

    First report

One page at the end of the month: what changed, what was found, what I suggest next.

If you leave, you keep every login, the latest backups and a written list of everything installed. If I miss a response time in a month, that month is free. owner to confirm

When a care plan is not worth it

Paying every month for nothing is not care.

  • 01Your site runs on a hosted platform such as Shopify or Squarespace, where the platform already handles updates and servers.
  • 02You already have a developer who updates, backs up and tests the site. Two people doing the same job just creates conflicts.
  • 03The site is being replaced within two months. A one-off backup and security check is cheaper; then start care on the new site.

Questions about care plans

What is included in a care plan?

Software updates tested on staging, off-site backups with a restore test, uptime checks, security scans and a one-page monthly report. Care and Store care add monthly content edit time, and Store care adds a weekly test order through checkout. The comparison table above lists exactly what each plan covers, plan by plan.

What happens if the site goes down?

The monitor alerts me within minutes and I start checking straight away during working hours: confirm the outage, find the cause, fix it or restore from backup, then write it up. If your host is at fault, I open the ticket with them and keep you updated in plain language until it is solved.

Can I add content edits to a plan?

Yes. Care includes 30 minutes and Store care 60 minutes of edits a month, such as new text, images, prices or a simple page. Unused time does not roll over. Larger changes are quoted in advance or billed at €95 an hour, excluding VAT, and only after you approve them.
